Born and educated in Oklahoma, she also brings a common-sense approach to everything from church administration to new member recruitment to the Sunday service, and her deep spirituality and understanding has raised our eyes and goals, even while we are enjoying the excitement of a new parish family in our midst. "The United Church of Christ is a thinking church", she says, in outlining her qualifications for the office, "which encourages its members and participants to study scripture and apply it to life." Her Sunday messages are filled with this spirit, and leave the listener ready to go forth and "care for one another through prayer and by helping in times of difficulty." This philosophy is part of the reason Peggy McClanahan is such a good fit for this congregation, reinforcing its long-standing tradition of serving God by serving others. Beside her busy schedule and involvement in the Church's boards and committees, Peggy finds time for the many books in her library and being a part of many causes working for peace and justice in the Church and the community. Husband Michael Montgomery is also active in the greater church and community service. Sons David and Daniel are busy teen-agers, good in school and busy in extra curricular activities. Peggy says, "I think my ministry here is to help all the members of Pilgrim Faith to carry forth the church's ministry" and to this end she is helping us identify and address many new church and community needs.
