Our U.C.C. Denomination

The United Church of Christ was formed in 1957, with the merger of the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Pilgrim part of Pilgrim Faith had been First Congregational Church of Oak Lawn before that, and the Faith part was one of the pre- merger churches who took the name United Church of Christ before the denomination actually existed. First Congregational became Pilgrim U.C.C. in 1966, and the two merged in 1970 to form Pilgrim Fauth.

The United Church of Christ looks to the Bible for guidance, while honoring the right and responsibility of each member to believe and act according to his or her own understanding of God's word and will. We believe we are called to care for one another and to care for the needy and hurting people of our community and world. We seek to make the world a better place for all people through our activities as individuals and as a church.
